Hi,
I got my H1 B approved and got the documents as well. But lost the entire set of documents provided by my companies lawyer.
I was supposed to go to India this December for my H1 stamping.
I am kinda in a fix now. How am I to go about getting the documents again from the CIS.

Please help. I have six weeks of time before I fly and I need this advice desperately.

Please help.

Thanks,

I can't thank enough!

Thanks a lot. You don't know how much this reply means to me.
Had a couple of questions, please reply to them even if you feel they are dumb and you can may be mention that they are dumb at the end of the reply.
1. Do you happpen to know how long this process takes?
2. I just want to make sure that you understand that I am going for my stamping, so would the dupliacate approval be enough. If not what are the other precautions need to be taken.

Again ... was refreshing this page until I found what I wanted.

Thanks in advance

I actually do not have clear answers for these 2 questions, but doing google, i found something a little negative to you...
Problem is it looks taking very long. For #2, it is the best to ask US consulate you are planning to visit, but according to the Q&A, duplicated doc seems to work.
If duplicated copy does not work for long processing, another option is you may ask your employer or lawyer to give you approval notice. I think they should have extra, but again i'm not sure if it is exactly the same as your had. You had better talk to laywer for the option.

Question submitted by DCstamping:
my employer applied for I824 since h1b visa was lost in mail by him, I have copy of it but can i go to india with the copy of the papers which are lost also i have applied for duplicate in Nov2002, how long does it take to issue duplicate h1b and how long does it take to get the stamping done in DC. please advice me as I have planned for my marraige in Dec 2003

Answer from lorenzo_lleras:
An I-824 can take a long time, sometimes more than a year, believe it or not. Also note that the consulate in India will probably want the original approval notice or duplicate - copies probably will not be good enough. Contact the consulate in question to see if there is anything that can be done.
