Lost H1 renewal papers - NEED HELP

Hello everybody,
I have a 2 part question.

1) My lawyer had recently sent my original H1 renewal documents (2nd three year period) to me but they were lost by UPS. I had to cancel my ticket to India and postpone my marriage plans. I need some guidance as to what needs to be done to resolve this issue and what kind of timeline i am looking at as far as getting a new set of documents goes?

2) UPS has confirmed that the documents have been lost and cannot be retrieved. Although usually couriers cannot be held liable for lost items can my circumstances in any way be grounds for a lawsuit?

Please help if anyone has any kind of experience with something like this.
Thanks a lot.

If you need to duplicate I797 approval notice, you need to file I824. Only problem I heard is it takes a few months to more than a year..

Yeah, You need to request a copy from USCIS. There is a trick to get it fast but cost a ton of money (or just go the regular way which cost few months to years)
- Apply extension again with additional 1K.
- Within 15 days USCIS will deny your case and send back the copy of your previous approved H1B or reissue the second externsion for you.

Have you paid for insurance? If not, nothing can be done. Mail lost is not a big deal (happens everyday)

Please help if anyone has any kind of experience with something like this.
Thanks a lot.
