Hey,

These are the circumstances.

- Lost Green card and don't have no clue what the number is..No Clue

- I am aware that the green card has expired since 2001.

So, How do I make an application to INS to identify who I am and and get my number? I applied sometme ago to replace but, without a number they sent the application back. So help what do I do?

Also, since my Green card is expired I am scared to look for another job..so am I safe now in being in the US and applying for another job?

Thank You All In Advance For Your Suggestion:)

How did you get the green card? Do you have any documentation/letter from INS? Do you have a passport with Alien number written on it?

Did you ever present your green card for employment/school admission anywhere? If you did, the employer is supposed to write down your A number and also have a copy of your green card. Schools might also have a record of your A number.

Thank you nkm-oct23 for your quick response. This is the deal.. I have been a house wife for over 10 years. I am from German and came here through filing with now, my Ex-husband who was in the military. Since, he was mad at me he burnt all my documents, passport , certificates everything to trap me. Hence we are not married anymore. So I have nothing..yes I am employed but, my employer did get prove of permanent residence. So I have nothing in my possession to reference to. So, I saw a suggestion to apply to the USCI with a form G-639 to may be find my alien number. So if I do this will this put me in any trouble with my US residence since my card is expired? I am scared..my ex-husband did all of this and now I have to handle it all and he is not being co-operative even now. Also, I looked at the G-639 form and it asked for the Alien Number which I don't have.. So help what do I do? Thank you for your reply:)

Are you saying that you have no passport, no green card, no driver license, no official ID at all? Not even copies of any of these? When did you lose your green card? Was it expired when you lost it? Why did you not renew it in 2001? Do you have a social security card? If you applied for your social security card after you obtained your green card, you might be able to get your green card information from social security.

Passport expired which was German used to enter the country. So that does no good in getting the lost Green card number. Yes I have a drivers license. Lost green card with ex-husband burning copies of my documents. Yes it was expired when it was lost. Didn't renew because husband took care of everything..my bad I should have at that time. Yes I have a social security card. So what of filing using G-639 form? Also am I safe with the authorities if I file this form. So what your response?

Expired Green Cards holders may be considered "out of status" and could be denied entry into the United States. So if you are in the US, you must go to USCIS immediately and get your A# number as well as renew your green card. If you are outside the US, you might have difficulties to get inside, so you may need to talk to immigration officer and hope for the best.
