I am travelling and left my green card in another city. The hotel mailed the green card to my hotel in Shanghai and it still has not arrived. I'm wondering what to do. Should I board my flight and then explain to the immigration official that I'm a green card holder and then have my hotel courier the green card to my home? Or do I need to wait until I receive the physical card in my hand? Anyone have any experience with this?

Tough one.... I guess the only important part is that you can get back into the states without a problem. Then, you can always order a replacement... will the GC not make it to you in time where you are now? If not, I'm not sure how the customs officer(s) will handle this.... I'm sure it's not the first time it's happened though.

It's China, where the mail is not as reliable as US mail. It's probably not going to reach, or it will take a long time. Airlines are fined if they bring people to the US who don't have valid Immigration papers, so if you don't have the physical card, or at least an unexpired I-551 stamp in your passport, the airline won't let you check-in on the flight unless you first go to a US Consulate and get a transportation letter.

Wait for 2-3 days if the Mail or Card reaches you
if not then
Lodge Police complaint and get copy of police report and then go to US consulate to get Travel Permit so that Airline can take you to US. If you remember your A# then it will be easy for the US consulate to find your info
