Hi,

I'm a Chinese citizen and have been a green card holder for 5 years now. I plan to start the application process for the American citizenship. Just recently, I discovered that I needed to list all entry and exit records for the past 5 years. Unfortunately, I couldn't find all the records. About 3 years ago, I had to turn in my old passport in exchange a new one. What can I do? Any advice will be appreciated!

Thanks

First, if you don't remember the precise travel dates, approximate dates would be OK provided they are roughly in the ballpark of the correct ones.

You can also file a FOIA/PA request with the CBP and request copy of their records related to your entering and exiting the U.S. The instructions on how to file such a request are available at:

Thanks so much for the information! I will try to get the records through CBP since I'm a frequent traveler. The CBP's website indicates that this could be a time consuming process. Do you have any idea how long it usually takes? 1 month? 3 months? or even longer?

Thanks again for your advice!

I vaguely remember that it takes something like 2-3 months, but if you are a frequent traveler, it may be worthwhile to get that info anyway, even if it means submitting N-400 a bit later than you'd like.

Dig up old emails, credit card statements, boarding passes, pictures, and other artifiacts from your trips to help yourself recover the dates of those trips. For example, if you booked a ticket online, the web site probably would have sent you an itinerary by email.
