Hi all,

I applied for my N400 a while back but cannot seem to locate the copy of the application I had made. Can I request the USCIS (NSC or St Paul office) to supply me with one? has anyone had this experience?

Thanks in prior.

One year?? The last time I requested my USCIS case file via FOIPA several years ago it took less than 60 days to receive it.

Follow up to the question

Hi,

Thanks for the info on filing FOIA. I looked at the said form on the USCIS website but found one question confusing: it asks whether I'm requesting FOIA and in addition if I'm requesting Privacy Act. Should I check the "privacy act" box too? Not sure what to do here.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm going to "shoot in the dark here" and assume you are still pending Naturalization.

Have you considered just re-creating the info on a new N-400 form and treating it as Updated info?

You used the term, a while back, so that's where my assumption came from.

Sorry it took me this long to respond. But yes, I filed a FOIPA in end of 2005 and got it April 2007. So, yes, it does take a minimum of 1 year. And ironically, they sent me a letter telling me I was a simple request and on the fast track. I'd hate to think how long I would have waited had I been on the complicated list.

I had filed a FOIPA way back in 1998. I did read that the number of requests have increased over the years , and the delays have gotten worse, so that would explain the delays in obtaining FOIPA request today.

You crack me up Bobsmyth! :D 1998 is not a "several years ago" it is a decade ago! And for USCIS a decade is a LONG time especially with all the changes coming in on a monthly basis.

Yes, it was a while back, specifically in Dec '06. So I'm stuck in name check. I just wanted a copy of my N400 from then to make sure I make all the updates that have become necessary since then (job title, travel and affiliations with organizations).

Also, regarding my question of FOIA versus FOIPA which one should I do? The same form asks whether I want to check the Privacy Act or not? should I or should I not.

Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
