Hi,
I have an H1-B that is valid for another 5.5 years. My question is what happens if i get laid off -- at this moment my H1-B is no longer valid. If i transform to other legal H-4 status (my wife has a separate H1-B), or other status such as J-2 of student's dependent, and later on find a new job, can my new employer use the quota number from my previous H1-B to get a new one for me?
Or if my H1-B is invalidated when i am laid off, it is gone forever, and i need to start everything from scratch (i.e. wait for new quotas to open before i can start a new job)?
Thanks!
