Hi,

The PDs were current until recently and then suddenly they jump all the way back to the 90s. Can someone please explain how this process works?

Thanks,
S

More guys come in.

As more PD pop up before Ur PD .... and USCIS does the reorder of there list ... U are pushed futher backwards.

Thats all is what retrogression is all about ..

In short, retrogression as you might think is not something new. The concept of prioity dates has always been there. Only until now the yearly quota of the Priority dates was not used up each year and hence the PD's were Current.
You know that the USCIS was not touching any 485 application for almost 3 years (2001, 02, 03), and because of that the PD's were never getting used up and so they were Current.
In 2004 USCIS went on a spree and there were record 485 approvals in 2004. Each of my friend who was waiting for 485 approval in 2004 got the approvals irrespective of their priority dates.
The side effect of this was that the Visa Numbers depleted at an alarming rate and eventually there were none left. And there is when the magic of retrogression kicked in.
