Gurus - I got my GC almost 10 months ago. My wife's follow-to-join is still pending, its a never ending process. Now , is it a feasible option to stay in Canada and work in US (some where close to the border) and commute daily from Canada ?
Appreciate your suggestions ..

Thanks

Lot of Canadians commute between Windsor and Detroit daily for work.

I pressume you have dual immigrant status? You will have to choose where you would like to reside permanently. Yes, lot of Canadians cross the border to work in the US everyday. However they are Canadian citizens working either on TN or on
L-1 or on H-1. Since you have a USGC it is different. You have to maintain your residence in the US. I think the best option would be to live close to the border (detroit, buffalo, bellingham)

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I just want to stay in Canada till my wife's ftj is complete. For it to get approved i need a job in US to sponser her. Btw, on US GC , can i rent a apt in Canada ?

Provided you have authorization from the Canadian government to live in Canada. A GC means nothing north of the border, just as Canadian permanent residency means nothing in the US.

Residency Requirement

Please note that in order for your GC to continue to be valid, you must reside permanently in the United States. Daily (or for that matter frequent) trips in and out of the US may cause the border agent to question whether your intent is permanent residence. You will probably get a warning from the border agent advising of residency requirements, and if ignored, may lead to revocation based on abandonment of permanent residence. I am not 100% sure whether this applies to trips to Canada, but can't think of any reason that it woudn't. You'd be better off applying for a reentry permit and working in Canada if you can do that legally.

You should post this question in the Life after GC forum. JoeF there seems to be pretty knowledgeable.

Canada stopped the Re-entry thing long ago. Basically, you have to reside in Canada for 3 years out of continued 5 years.

Other than that, I really dont think there is a problem in this whole issue as long as you have valid visa/AP/Green Card. On the contrary, if you are a Canadian permanent Resident it is difficult to prove US borders each time you enter that you do have a valid business reason (Especially, if your skill is dark)

Thanks guys for your comments. I was planning to do that till my wife gets her ftj approved. Somehow they lost the cable, not sure how long more it will take.
