Liability and Cancelling a Petition

One of my elder relatives petitioned for his married son and daughter and their families to come to the US.

He is no longer on speaking terms with his son and wants to cancel his petition. How can he do that?
Will it effect his daughter's file?

It is two separate cases, but he fears that USCIS will cancel both or the wrong one, or question why one is being cancelled and not the other file.

Is there any way someone else can reopen the file afterwards?

He fears that sponsoring his son may cause legal tension, as he would be financially responsible until his son and family are no longer dependant, and have met the minimal qualifications (ie. become citizens, work over 10 years, etc).

What can he do?

contact USCIS in writing (service center where the petition is pending, or NVC if it's approved and moved there).

no

there is no reopening a petition after the petitioner revoked it.

question why one is being cancelled and not the other file.
they don't care
