length of 7th year extension?

I applied for 7th year extension last year (Sep 2002) and got it before my 6 years expired in early 2003.

I have been under the impression that the 7th year extension extends the visa in increments of one year, and that one has to get an extension every year. However, my extension is for 3 years, until 2005! I subsequently went to India and my I-94 stamp also allows stay until Jan 2006.

I am worried that INS willl later identify this as a clerical error and decide that my stay beyond 2003 is out-of-status. Can someone please clarify?

Yes they will. So it is better to apply for the next 1year increment before the end of this one year.
