I am currently a conditional GC holder (through marriage) that is valid until September 2010. My wife and I are planning a divorce as things did not work out. I want to legally abandon my GC before September and head back home toi India in June. Hopefully the divorce will not be too complicated as it is uncontested (irreconcilable differences); I will start the process in a week or two. Once the divorce is finalized, I plan to leave the country in a week or two after. But how can I legally abandon my GC before I go back? I looked on the uscis website for the I-407 form but it isn't in their form section. Is it a matter of simply handing over the GC at the airport immigration before I leave? I just want to make sure I have all loose ends tied so that if I plan to visit the US in the future there will be no complications.
