What does a lawyer mean when he says he will provide a legal briefing to the IO during the interview ?

What are the advantages/drawbacks of having a lawyer present at the interview ?
 
Legal briefing means that lawyer will provide the IO with a summary of your case , including any arrests and convictions you have. They use this language when selling their services.
Unless you have a complicated case I don't see much benefit in paying a lawyer to be present at your interview.
