Leaving the US

I am a US citizen and my wife is Japanese. We received her GC a couple of years ago. Since then some different issues/opportunities have come up and we have decided to relocate back to Japan. Although any future is uncertain, this will in all likelyhood be a permenant move away from the US.

Questions:
1. Does my wife have to give up her GC? If so, how do we go about that.
2. Will she still be able to return to the US with me to visit family in the US after giving up her GC?
3. If we decide to try to keep the GC, what are the tax implications?

I really appreciate any and all advice on this. Also, if anyone could point me in the right direction of the official immigration policy on this I would be grateful. I don't even know where to start to find the answer to this question and am very happy to discover this site.

Thanks to you all

----------------She can apply for Reentry permit with form I-131 before she goes out of US and can pick up from US consulate in Japan. Reentry permit is valid for 2 years.
