I have a family emergency and need to travel abroad asap. Does anyone know what happens if i leave without the greencard, but don't return untill it has arrived? I thought that once it comes in the mail, i can have it sent to me abroad and then return to the US.

And does anyone know how long it would take to obtain the Advance Parole document? I need to travel in early June and i'm not sure i would get it in time.

Does anyone know of any other options imight have? Thanks

For my understanding, if you leave US without AP before you get your green card, it means you give up your application.

You can go to your DO and show the evidence of your family emergency. Your local DO can issue you a AP right away according to other people's experiences on this forum.

Good luck!

I am assuming that your I-485 was appoved at the interview. I've read in AOS Interview experiences of a few people here that even though the adjudicating officer did not stamp the passport at the time of the interview, she/he did say that if the applicant needs to travel before getting the physical GC, she/he may go up to the DO and they would stamp the passport. Worth a try. Good Luck.

Unfortun. all i have is the verbal approval. I tried to get a stamp at Federal Plaza but they told me that file still needs to be updated and short of looking through boxes to find my file, there is nothing they can do to see if its approved or not. (This seems bizare to me, any thoughts on this?) Fed. Plaza said to try to talk to the officer in Garden City and that she should be able to stamp it if she wants. Went there today, and got the run around.

You have to think in the worst case scenario, what happen if they send you a letter for FP/bio (happened before) even the officer told you that you was approve? how you will return? Other bad scenario, and there is a person with that experience, the card haven't arrived and have been several months after the approval.

I know that is not nice to think so negative, but if you leave right now there is nothing neither in the system that says that you are a legal permanent resident.

Good luck,
