In these days of layoffs and downtrend economy, is there really a mandatory requirement for people on EB Green Card to find gainful employment within a specific time limit? What happens if one does not find employment even after 6-8 months of constant search?

find employment within a specific period of time.If you\'ve the layoff
letter from your company,you can get unemployment benefits from the government.
 
Unemployment benefits available to PR\'s

UI benefits available to all PR\'s. At least in New Jersey that is certain. Maybe you are thinking of welfare benefits which are available only to citizens.
 
UEB after a few months of unemployment?

What happens in the case where a person is severed with some pay and does not go to SEC for Unemployment Benefits(UEB)? But in the optimism that he will get a job very soon. After 7 months, still no job. Can he/she go to SEC for UEB and get benefits?

Is there an INS rule that limits a duration of time that a GC holder can be on unemployment for consideration to citizenship?

How long can one be on UEB?
