Language Appointment Question

Hi,

I am planning to set up an appointment for my parents for tourist visa during Aug/Sep 2006 time frame. My dad is very fluent in English. My mom can understand English (she reads Hindu newspaper every day), but having been a housewife for several years, I am not sure how well she can communicate.

In this scenario, is it advisable to set up a “Telugu” appointment or is it okay if I get an “English” appointment for them. Do the immigration officers prefer to communicate with the candidates directly? In other words, having a translator increases or decreases the odds of visa approval?

If we set up a “Telugu” appointment, can my Dad speak with the visa officer directly and have only my mom use the translator.

Hi...I have almost the same question. My mother to certain extent understands English (may be 40%)...my father is fluent. I am not able to decide what to do as my wife is expecting in July and I don't see any dates for "Telugu" open. Can any of you advice?

it should be fine to get english appointment if one person is fluent. we did the same

Thanks very much for your information regarding the Language appointment. I just wanted to recheck with you- has the officer let your mother give answers in regional language and your father translated it? Or how is it. Pls tell me. I will take english based on your feedback. Thanks

In this case it was my mom who is fluent and she answered all the questions.

I set up a telugu appt for my parents - just to be safe. We are not in a hurry for their visit unlike you who is expecting a baby soon. Good luck with whatever you decide.
