Hello Everyone,

I am planning to land in Canada from US in July. I am on H1B here and will go to Canada and will come back in few days.

I have couple of questions for the people who have landing experience from U.S. or know about the answers.

1. At the time of the interview, the visa officer asked me about the funds that will be availabe for my family in Canada and she put it in my file that this will be the amount that will be avialable as settlement funds.

My questions is, how do we prove or show at the time of landing the availibility of funds. I have a bank account in US but not in Canada.

2. Would the list of GOODS TO FOLLOW include the worth of items i.e., value of car, value of furniture etc? If yes, should it be in Canadian dollars?

3. I have a financed car here in US that I am planning to go by when I will land BUT I will bring it back with me when I will come back to US. Would it be problem if I do not declare that car at the time of landing and put it in GOODS TO FOLLOW? Won't they ask about the car if I own it or not? ( I am still paying for the car) What will be the procedure?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

-- You should take the recent Bank statement from US bank and if possible take the same day Printout from your bank ATM (better keep 2-3 recent ban statement and show only recent one if asked show other statements. Your fund should be in US bank as stated by you at the time of interview.

-- if you write in US Dollars no problem they will convert it to CDN, but inform then it in USD

n It May create a problem, if you are not planning take up residency in Canada immediately better Land with Rental car because in other thread some one had the problems later. Once you declare your Car you have to pay Custom duty on it . Better talk to Canada Customs, they have website.
n “Vault” May give you more suggestions

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR!! You can take a US plated rental car. If you take your car, you will be forced to import the car, and trust me you do not want to go through the headaches!!

I am not sure as to how much funds you told the consular officer during your interview time. I would tak half of it in the form of cashiers check, and the rest in the for a letter form the bank (notarized). Also carry bank statements.

Each person has his way of doing when it comes to show proof of availability of funds. It's up to you how you do it.

If you are planning on heading back to US, I hope you have a valid visa stamp in your passport.

Thanks for your replies Ginnu and Vault.

Yes I do have a valid visa stamped and the expiry date is July 31, 2003. I will come back before that date. These days my H1 extension application is in progress but my old H1 will be vaild till July 31 with the stamp. I do not foresee any problem with that.

Once I will come back, I will apply for visa re-stamping from US Department of State in Missouri.
