I have US GC for a year now and my Canada PR process completed and visa in pasport stamped (expires in a month).

Please advise on process to "land" in Canada and return to US on GC.
Special interest of hassle-free return and preserving GC if the US officer sees Canadian PR visa.

Plan to land via rental car (seatle-vancouver)

Can you guys share your experience on Advance Parole?
I got my PR in Canada few months back. I went to Canada 2 weeks ago for landing process. I was harassed at the US immigration while returning to US.
I am planning to go home next month. I would appreciate if some shares the experience.

What exactly were you harassed about?
Just checking/scanning your pussport/AP/GC/visa and asking for lengh of your trip is not considered harassement :)

Did they notice or ask about Canada visa in your passport?
What did they ask - e.g. purpose of your trip?
Vacation - inconsistent with Canada immigrant visa in your passport?

Bottom line is, your US PR wil be canceled if you land Canada with canadian PR

Why? and cancelled by who?
Can you provide any links, reference or experience?

Landing is done with return to US within 2 days with no job, home, or any other ties to canada.

--------- by landing in canada you are taking the Permanent residence of Canada . you are doing it AFTER getting US GC and it clearly shows your Intent to be PR of Canada. you will not be admitted to US if you are taking PR of Canada. but if you have landed Before US GC then US has no problems becasue you got US GC after canada PR.

Not true.
I landed in Canada in June while having a green card and came back to US without any issue.
I got US GC stamped in my passport first and then after a week I landed in Canada as Permanent resident.
The Canadian authorities seen my US GC stamping in the passport and even thought they issued me the PR status in Canada.
The lady clearly told me since you have PR status in both countries, we will monitor you and you got 3 years of time to decide which one you have to keep?
so till 3 years you can have PR status in both countries. According to Canadian policy, if you are out for more than 3 years in every 5 years, then your PR status in Canada will be cancelled.
so till that time you can use Canada PR to enter Canada and US PR when coming back to US.
It won't create any problems.
Canda dont wont to lose new immigrants, so they giving 3 years of time to decide for you if you can come back to Canada.
hope this helps you.

when coming back, US official will ask about your status. you can always tell you visited Canada for landing and coming back to US for work since you have a valid status in US and a job here. you will be all set. if you have a valid status in US, they will always allow you to enter US and they dont care if you have 1 PR status or 10 PR status with other countries around the world.

The main problem will be if your wife is planning to live in Canada permanently, she may loose the US GC status after some time.
According to US policy, if you are staying outside the country for more than 6 months, you have to apply for the re-entry permit.
To main the Permanent resident status, you shouldn't stay outside US for more than 6 months. but if you like to stay long than 6 months, its better to take re-entry permit.

hey guys I need your advise

I just wanted to know how long Canadian Pr process will take if I apply from today approx. I am getting really frustated with US GC. Also I heard it's very easy get PR from Q'bec please need your comments.

thanks

Re-enter US on GC after landing in Canada

Thanks Abrama.
Questions about re-entering US.
Which port of entry?
Did US officers see the Canada visa?
Did they ask anything about Canada PR?
Did the scan your passport? (which would be different document ID than the machine readable Canada visa)

Abrama,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Isn't there a problem each time you enter the U.S., especially via airports? The port of entry officer can see the Canada PR sticker on your passport and question you. S/he can place you in removal proceedings.

Could you share your experience over the years? Have you had trouble during entry after any international trip?

Thanks.
