Landed in Canada- Friend address not accepted and IMM5456 for address notification!

Dear Forum Members,

I have landed in Canada last week as the deadline to do the Landing for my Canadian PR is only a few days away. So I wanted to use my friend's address to receive my PR. The immigration officer at the border asked me if the address is where I will live after the landing. I told him that it's my friends address and I will go back to the US for a couple of months to defend my PhD thesis before permanently moving back to Canada. Upon this the officer did not let me use my friends address for receiving the PR card. He gave me an address notification form ( IMM 5456) and asked me to fax it to the PR processing center (or use the CIC website) to let them know my address once I come back to Canada. Beside this ussue, my landing experience was pretty smooth.

I came back to the US a day after as I had to an important engagement
at work.

- Has anyone been or is anyone in the same position as me ? Please
advise.
- Can I fax the form or send the form from the US? has any one ever
done this?
- Can I ask a friend living in Canada to fax/send the form from Canada
and will receive the PR in my place.

I would really appreciate any feedback

Many thanks in advance.

PS. The Address Notification form says that if I do not have my PR card 180 days after my landing , then there is a separate application process etc. So, I do not want to wait until I go back to Canada and have my own place ...etc which can take up to 9 months from now.

god_father,
I am in the same situation. Officer asked me if I was moving in permanently on the day of landing, I said no and it might take another 5-6 months to permanently move in. Immigration officer provided me a form and asked me to fax with permanent address after I permanently moved in. I am not saure if I can use my cousin's address and fax the form or do I have to wait until I make another entry in to Canada. I appreciate your suggestion.

Hello,

I want to share my experience on this issue , I had the same issue when i landed in Nov(Windsor).Officer refused to accept my friends address and gave the IMM5456 for address notification and asked me to fax or mail once i permanently moved to canada , But i faxed on the same day of landing and got my PR in 3 weeks( I have given my friends address).

Thanks

Canada3,
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can I go ahead and fax the address form from US or do I need to wait until my next visit to Canada? any suggestions.

aboppana ..

My suggestion is go ahead and fax the address form , Iam not sure whether they will track the fax number since you are faxing from US.Other alternative is you can mail the address form to your friend and let him fax the address form from canada.

Need help

Hello,

Recently we got our Canada PR cards except my daughter. When I try to call or fax to PR card center it didn't go through at all. It mentioned in the web site (Canada only). When I try to enter "address confirmation" on the web for my daughter it nothing displayed. May be it missed in the mail.

Please give me some advise how to contact them or any 1800 for US customers.

Thanks,
jdk98

Congrats aboppana !! Hope you get your card in a day or two.

Thanks Canada3! My card has not received as of Monday. I'll give it another week before I contact the CIC.

I landed in Canada few days ago however I immigration officer didn't asked for any address to send PR card and didn't even gave me any form "IMM 5456" either. According to him, since you are not actually landing today we cannot gave you PR card.

Any thoughts on what should I do next?

Thanks

PR cards

Fill that form and fax to given number

or

Go to CIC web site and enter your "address notification".

After 2 or 3 weeks you will get your PR cards through mail.
