Hello Guys,

I know this is a kind of a wrong place to post this discussion here in citizenship forum.
But I just need expert advises who might have experience.

Spouse is going to petition for me. (I-130 consular processing). Our marriage certificate is laminated, as well as her birth certificate is also laminated.

My question is: Is it going to be acceptable by NVC when we submit oringal copies of marriage and birth certi with DS-230 ???

Any experience with NVC.....plz post.........Thanks

I had also heard that laminated BC is a problem. I had to send original BC (which was laminated) for getting US PP for our daughter. Same was accepted by DOS with out any issue. Here is link for you with similar question posted by me and some response.

But again it may differ from agecy to agency. What DOS accepted may or may not be accepted by NVC. Good luck.

Unless it is standard procedure for the issuing authority itself to laminate the certificates, you will have problems using laminated ones.

You don't need to submit the DS-230 and the original certificates until after the I-130 has been approved, so if the I-130 hasn't been filed yet, or was recently filed, you have plenty of time to obtain newly issued, unlaminated certificates.

Thank you so much for your reply. You are right now I have to see whether NVC accepts our marriage and wife's BC - as laminated or not. In one of the forum, I have seen that one of the user stated that he sent laminated orignal certificates and there's no problem. .....

Guys plz suggest further any expereince with NVC.........

They accept laminate BC or MC if its from another country. U.S documents are not accepted as laminated. This was my experience dealing with the NVC.

I've been hassled for showing my laminated BC, but once I explained that I am an asylee, they said ok, since I can't approach my government for a new one.

Why dont you call the NVC and ask them? Things change and maybe they have stopped or started to accept laminated BC or MC. All i know is that NVC is not consistent at all.

They just said that laminated BCs are not acceptable, but I said I can't get a new one because I am not comfortable going to my COP's consulate to get a new one, so this was all I had.
