Laidoff-status?

Hi Netters,
Recently one of my friends was laid-off. His company had
sponsored him for the GC process. He had just completed his
finger-printing after applying for I-485. It\'s been two months
since he applied for I-485. He has his EAD. He will get two more months of pay.

What\'s his status? Can he work for some other company using that
EAD? and Will this affect his GC process?

Yes your friend can. See the humungeous archives dealing with this topic. Find the AC21 document (a pdf) in the net (isn.org) and ask your friend to read it up. Most of the lawyer sites have info on this.
 
One little Clarification

What if the GC for the friend is approved before 180 days ?. Can he use the poratability as it was the company which laid him off and he did not quit the company on his own ?
