I got laid off and am on H1B
I am looking for jobs and how long i can search and will it be problem to file H1Transfer.What is the grace period for H1 Transfer.My last working day is Aug05/09.
I am canadian and my spouse is indian citizen(H4 status) so how long we both can stay in US.

You need to change status to B2tourist by filing I-539, you need to send this in NOW, -- ask for 6 months to wind down affairs. Then you remain in status and can look for new job.

You will be able to either go to border for TN or file H1 or TN by I-129.

But you both first need to get a legal status
