laid off, no job, what to do?

I will be laid off in a couple weeks, I have I-485 pending for six month, I was wondering if INS reject my case because I am not able to show employment letter, in that case, can I switch to H4 and then wait for my spouse to file i-485 for me.

Since I will be using EAD and lose non-immigration status. If my 485 was rejected, can I change to H4 in US or have to go back to get visa stamp. Will I encounter problem for new visa once had I-485 reject record.
 
You\'re in adjusting status and can work anywhere with your EAD

But you need a job in a similar position for an employment based GC and to avoid denial on public charge grounds.
