Hello Everyone,

I am to be travelling soon on an L2 visa as my wife is there on an L1, would like to know how much time does it take to get an EAD and how easy or difficult it is?
Also if one were to try get a driving lisence there is it advisable to carry an International Driving Lisence from India and does that hold any good at all there in the US or it is easier to go through the whole process there itself ?

L2 and EAD

It will take approximately 3 to 3-1/2 months for the EAD to be processed. You can then apply for SSN which will come within a week. After that you can apply for any job.

EAD processing is not so difficult unless there are some mistakes in the form that USCIS sends you with the LIN number. If there are any corrections needed, it will take a lot of time.

Any license will not be valid after certain number of days in US. The grace period in which you can use your Indian license or International license depends on the state to which you are going. In Massachusetts, it is 1 year. Before the grace period ends, you have to go through the whole process mandatorily to get a US driver's license.

It is good to have your Indian/International license for insurance purposes. More the numbers of years of driving experience you show in your previous license, less the insurance amount you will be paying.

Hope this answers your question.
