L1B to L1 / H1 Transfer?

I've been in the US with CompanyA for 1.5 years and have another year remaining in my L1B. Due to personal reasons I have to quit CompanyA but I want to stay back in the US and work for another company.

I know filing an H1 is possible but wouldn't happen until I file in Apr 2013 and get approved in Oct 2013 which is going to be really a long wait. What options do I have considering the fact that I have to quit my current company very soon...

1) Will I be able to transfer from L1 (from CompanyA) to L1 (of CompanyB) immediately?
2) Will I be able to transfer from L1 (from CompanyA) to H1 (of CompanyB) immediately?
3) Assuming one of the above is possible, What would be the earliest I can legally start working for another company?
4) If above is not possible, what other options do I have to be able to stay back and work for another company in the US?

Any info would highly be appreciated since this is a matter of urgency and part of few major decisions I have to take.

Thanks in advance

A1: Have your worked outside the US for Company B in the past? If so, then first need to get an I-129L approved for you before you can work for them.
A2: Yes you can COS from L-1 status to H-1B status assuming you do not fall out of status between the two.
A3: When your COS is approved
A4: If you have a US citizen spouse, you can apply for AOS and secure an EAD

Thanks Ghori.

1) No, Im still trying to find jobs in CompanyB
2) Right, Im assuming this can only happen Apr2013?
3) What is COS? Is that something i can apply right away?

Thanks again...

#1: You have no idea what L-1 is for then. If you have not worked for Company B outside the US, there is no way you will qualify for an L-1 for Company B.
#2: Only when an employer gets an I-129H approved for you
#3: COS = change of status. Right now you have no basis for COS, so you cannot apply. You first need to secure a basis to apply for change of status.

Thanks Ghori.
