I work for an Indian software company with large operations in USA.I entered USA as a Project Manager with 4 years of experience on L1A (blanket) under managerial category in August 2000. My visa was initially granted for 1 year and my extension of visa was applied by my company in July/August 2001 and my L1 and visa were approved for another two years till August,2003.Therefore I would be completing 3 years of stay in USA by August 2003. In between I went to India in Dec 2002 and while re-entering my visa and I-94 were granted till August 2003 only (by virtue of petition expiry). Last month,I have sent my documents for further extension of my petition,visa and L1 to my company.My questions are:
a) Will it be possible to get extension on L1A while I continue to stay in USA or is it necessary to go back and come on a fresh L1 petition (Since I have completed 3 years of stay in USA).
b) Is there restriction on number of times extension is granted to L1A holders other than the 7 year maximum limit ? This is because I am seeking second time extension of my visa.
C) Is it necessary to apply for fresh petition every three years ? I am asking this because when my first L1A was approved the notice of Action that INS has sent me was for 1 year. When I applied for extension, they granted it for two years? Do I need to go back to India at the end of three years of my stay in USA, so as to come back again on fresh L1A petition and visa?
