L1A Clarification on Recapturing Lost Time for L1-A Extension

Hi,

I am currently on an L1-A visa, which was issued in January 2020. I entered the U.S. in April 2021, resulting in a 15-month period where I wasn’t in the country. My employer is now filing for my second 2-year extension (the first was filed in 2022), and I would like to know if they can include the lost time in this application.

Is it legally possible to request the recapture of the lost period along with the standard 2-year extension? Or can the lost time only be recaptured after both extensions have been used? I would appreciate your prompt guidance on this matter.

Thank you for your assistance.

I am in the same boat I lost 12months in my first 3 year visa and I know re-capturing is there in L1A and the lost time can be taken back, I have read only 2 year extensions are possible(not very sure).

So in your case I think 2 year extension will come now and in your third extension need to apply for that 15month lost time.

I am not an expert but sharing my understanding and views only.

I am not familiar with the L1A situation, but I can share my experience with L1B.

My L1B visa was approved in February 2017, and I entered the U.S. in July 2018. The visa expired in January 2020, and an extension was submitted for 2 years.

Following that, in January 2022, my employer filed a petition to reclaim the remaining period, and I received an additional 1.5 years of visa. I finally left the U.S. in June 2023, after spending a total of 5 years on the L1B visa.
