L1 visa period?

Typically, L1 (intra company transfer) visa is given only for less than 12 months. Is that true? Has anyone got L1 visa with validity more than 1 year at a time? Most folks on L1 visa get their visa renewed again and continue to stay in the US with probably a short trip to India to do the visa stamping again. Has anyone or anyone you know has got a L1-visa stamped in their passport for more than 12 months at a stretch? If so, please let me know. I would like to know the basis that determines the periodicity of the visa issuance.

My L-1 was also for 1 year period.
But, I may have to do an outside trip to get the extension done now that they have dropped doing the revalidation within the US. It wasn't helpful in many ways since they would lock your passport up for 3 to 4 months and if there was an emergency you would have to go through hoops to get it back from them.

Hope this tells you that you aren't the only one with 1 yr. validity.

anyone with any information on my question pls.?

I am on L1 for 3 years. Got a renewal without leaving the country for another 2 years till 2006. He told me if by that time I still cannot get my GC, he will file for H1 and hope my GC will be approved then.

Typically, a L1 is granted for 3 years, except if you are setting the new offices of the US branch. It this case, they will give you for 1 year and you must renew. The renewal depends on whether you can prove that during this initial year, you have been able to do businees and make sufficient income for the company to be needed to stay in the US.

I am not a lawyer but have done a lot of research on L1
Seek proffessional advice to be sure.

L1A maximums are 3 years for first stamping max, renewal for another 3 year max, then one last extention for 1 year max. Gives a max of 7 years.

L-1 Visa was issued

Hi,

just received the notice that my L-1A visa was approved. Unfotuntally, the nostice still stated that I have to pick it up at a consulate abroad. The INS dis not seem to get the notice from my employer that I have already entered the US on a business Visa and that I requested the visa to be picked up at the local INS.

When calling INS, they told me that as long as I do not leave the US, I am fine with the notice (Form I797B valin duntil 2008), but as soon as I leave the US, I will have to get the visa? Is that correct? Do I not need something in my passport or a card? Or if yes, can I change my status in the US or when entering the US - can I get the visa that way (going to canada and coming back). The forms states that if no visa required, I can get admission to the US with that form...

Any experience with this or suggestions on how to deal with this? Also, any idea on how soon I cann apply for a green card with my L-1A visa?

Thanks a lot.
