L1 Visa held. Can I apply for new H1 visa

I am currently on L1 visa, can I apply for a new H1 visa? If a new employer applies for a new H1 visa, does it void my L1 status? Can I not get my H1 stamped and stay on the L1 visa itself?

Any help is appreciated.

You can apply for H1 unless you have spent 6 years on L1.

I switched from L1B to H1B a few years ago. When I got H1 stamp
on my passport, it comes back with "Cancelled without Prejudice" stamp
right on L1 stamp. So, I guess L1 becomes void when you get H1 stamp.
