L1 to F1 and dependent status - URGENT

Hi,

My situation is as follows:

I and my wife are on L1 and L2 respectively. We are expecting in the month of May. I will be going back to India in July last week to get my F1 stamping and I don't want to take my one and half month kid to such a long duration journey. My question is whether my wife can stay here in USA while I go back and get the F1 stamping from India. In this case I can come back and file for "Change of Status (L2 to F2)" for my wife. I-94 expiration is not a problem in our case. My wife's I-94 will expire in the last week of December.


Please help.
