Hi,
I am on L1 visa and currently working with an indian company. I would like to change my visa from L1 to H1 and for that, I have some of my following doubts :

1. Is it possible to change visa from L1 to H1 by employee himself ?

2. If yes, then does employee need to notify his current employer for this or INS will notify his current employer ?

3. Is there any way that I get my H1 for new employer and my present employer doesn't get notify?
4. Should I try to convert my visa from L1 to H1 or I should look towards getting a fresh H1 visa?

5. I stayed here for 2 yrs on L1 and now, if I convert my L1 into H1, then will I get H1 for 3yrs or 1yrs only because I already stayed 2 yrs on L1.

If any one of you have gone through this, then please clearify my doubts.

-- I don't think its possible, your employer needs to agree

- Once you get H1 from a new employer, you are all set to work there, right?

4. Should I try to convert my visa from L1 to H1 or I should look towards getting a fresh H1 visa?

-- If you will be working with the same company conversion is sufficient. I don't think its any different

5. I stayed here for 2 yrs on L1 and now, if I convert my L1 into H1, then will I get H1 for 3yrs or 1yrs only because I already stayed 2 yrs on L1.

-- L1-B is valid for 5yrs and H1 for 6yrs. So, if you have already completed 2 yrs, you will have 3 yrs on L1 or 4 yrs on H1.

If any one of you have gone through this, then please clearify my doubts.
