KQED's Forum Discusses Immigration Policy

The topic of discussion in Tuesday's (01/13/04) forum program, broadcast between 9:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. (PST) on the bay area NPR station KQED, is Bush's immigration policy. We should call the listener call in line (866 SF-FORUM or 415 863-2476) or send an e-mail question/comment to forum@kqed.org to explain our situation. Make sure that the e-mails are not longer than 3 to 4 sentences.

email earlier?

email before the broadcast time or during broadcast time.

If before, why limit to 3-4 sentences?

In my opinion, the tone should not be humble or pleasing.

May be a subject line like

"An election gimmick?"

The body would contain sentences like

Nothing is being done to reduce the current backlog. The new reforms will only break the already collapsing backbone of CIS. The president is having a soft corner for the illegal immigrants and not for the legal hard working, highly productive and inteliigent workers.

Let's make them hear us!!

Rather than bashing any particular group directly (illegal immigrants), this would be a great oppurtunity to eloquently present our case stating that us "legal" immigrants have to suffer due to the total disregard shown by BCIS towards our cause. I am going to send an e-mail. The more the better.

Also, I would request the moderator(s) to keep this thread up until this program is over. We can send this link to the program as well.

I guess the e-mail could be longer, if it was sent earlier. In my experience--I always e-mailed during the program, longer e-mails were never read on air (not even a portion of the e-mail!).

The best thing would be to call, but some times (especially if it is a hot button issue) you are on hold until the end of the program and never get a chance to go on air due to the large number of listeners calling in.

Send e-mail and also try to call if time permits!

Only about 5-10 e-mails are read on air in the KQED's forum program. If there are many e-mails expressing the same opinion, the moderator (Michael Krazny) just reads "sound bites" from a couple of e-mails and mentions that a number of e-mails expressing similar views were received. We should definitely send an e-mail. But we should also try to call the program so that we get more air time for our cause.

By the way, if you are living in a place where you do not get the forum program on your public radio station, you can listen to it online at www.kqed.org and you can listen to the recordings at http://www.kqed.org/programs/program-landing-local.jsp?progID=RD19

I have just sent as follows.
I agree that Immigration Reforms is definitely required,
however, the USCIS' Immigration Management System is almost corrupted with millions of backlog,
and the U.S.Goverment should fix it at first immediately,
otherwise, Bush's new Temporary Worker Program would simply develop another millions of backlog,
and it would end America as the country of freedom and justice.
This is one of reason why our community ImmigrationPortal.Com filed a lawsuit against USCIS.
