K-3 Spouse getting green card?

My husband just received his K-3 visa and "brown envelope." He was told by the consular officer "give this [the envelope] to the immigration officer at the airport. Give them your US address, and that is where they'll send your green card."

Now, he has an approved I-130 already, but we have not filed for his AOS, since he isn't in the US yet. Are they actually going to send him a green card just like that, without us filing anything else?

I am thinking that this was just an error on the part of the officer at the consulate, and that we still need to file his I-485. Am I correct?

As he has a K3 visa, then yes he WILL need to AOS once he arrives in the US. I think the officer was getting confused with the other spousal visa (CR1/IR1) where your greencard arrives automatically upon arrival in the US. He will still need to hand the brown envelope 'unopened' to the POE officer upon arrival though, and then go through AOS as you correctly assumed.

However, just make sure that he DOES have a K3 and not a CR1/IR1 visa.
