Just talked to IIO

I just talked to Immigration Information Officer (IIO) at INS Nebraska Service Center (NSC) today, i.e., Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at around 3:05 p.m. The lady was very polite and friendly. She confirmed that my Finger Prints were cleared on April 4, 2001 and my wife\'s on April 2, 2001.

She told me that currently NSC is adjudicating I-485 petitions with Receipt Date (RD) of April 15, 2001. I asked her if they go by Notice Date (ND) or RD and she said that they always go by RD for all kinds of applications, whether its I-485, I-140, EAD or whatever.

She told me that my I-485 application is sitting on a shelf in the "FILE ROOM". She further told me to expect adjudication on my I-485 petition in three to four weeks from today.

By the way, I am also checking the AVM every night.

Just like to share the information with you guys.

My RD is April 17 and and ND May 11 (both 2000). The AVM says that my recipt date is May 11. The ILO says that April 17th was the day my application arrived in the mail room and May 11 was the day it went into the system. She says that they go by the day it went into the system.

So I remain confused as to whether they go by RD or ND or was her answer just one of convenience and that my AVM reocrd is screwed up. Another possibility is that my application just sat an gathered dust for 21 days or so and they actually \'received\' it into the system and sent me the notice the same day.

Saimarif,

My RD (May 30, 2000) and ND (June 22, 2000) are identical to yours and coincidentally I called NSC at about 3 p.m. today (May 22, 2001). The IIO was very courteous and told me that they were processing April 15, 2000 cases and my case would be processed soon too. Let me know when you receive your approval and I will do the same.

Dsmayor - This sure is a great coincidence. Did IIO tell you any time frame like she told me three to four weeks?

I am planning to call once every week from now, probably every Monday. Since next Monday (May 28) is a holiday, I would probably call Tuesday, May 29. Let me know what you think of this idea?

Keep in touch.

Saimarif- Please do not take it personel but do not keep calling them. You call them once and got an update regarding your case. Keep calling them will waste your and the officer time, and they may impose some conditions for those people who are behind you, and they may not be able to call them in NEED.

Cluster,

You are such a courage people (Just like me). I did something as you did. "Suggestion someone do not call INS unless their case is long behind the normal time" Most time people do not want to hear what we say.

Simarif,
Please think about it ! Please ! It not for me only. It for everyone ! May be one day I really need to call IIO.

Guys,

Its not any coincidence - the message is the same at all the time. They are processing I-485 applications as of 4/15/01. It\'s the same as they have stated in the processing times and they are supposed to give out the same info.

So, if you call every week you get the same info. Also, don\'t be surprised if the next time you call they give you the exact date when you had called last, - because you calls are noted in the remarks column.
