Just got naturalized - question about dual citizenship

Hey guys,

Just got naturalized (yay)!

Prior to going through the process, I made sure that US is ok with maintaining dual citizenship. Found out that it really depends whether the country of birth allows it or not. My native country allows dual citizenship.

However, during the oath ceremony the officer kept referring to "former nationality," and terms suggesting suspension of former citizenship. What's the deal with that?

They (USCIS) doesn't officially recognize dual citizenship so they will always refer to it as your previous nationality. But don't worry, since your home country recognizes it that's what counts.
