Jury Duty..., why to me???

I received a letter from Orange County Superior Court regarding Jury duty. What a blunder... We just had GC stampping on Aug-30, and not yet received our GC cards...

You might want to look into that, from what I understand only citizens eligible to vote have jury duty.

If you have to go anyway, just tell them that the old testament of the bible is your guidance in all matters pertaining to the law. 'A tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye' (It won't take them long to dismiss you.)

No -- its for citizens only ...
I think they get the addresses from DMV -- I've gotten 2 or 3 notices till now
( I wish they can give me a citizenship -- I'll gladly do the duty :D )

If u see the back of the notice, you'll know what to send ... basically mail a copy of ur passport.

It happened to us as well. Take a look at the form and check the reason that you are not a US citizen and hence are exempt from jury duty and send it back.

I would take the letter with me and go to a local USCIS office and show them that I need to get the GC to apply for citizenship and to server jury duty :D

GOOD ONE Wang2Mazi :)  ;) :D

Wang2Mazi,
Good one.

All others, On the reverse, I would tick and write the country name of my citizenship. Do you guys think, I need to go to the court on the specified date or do you guys have any experience of receiving a letter before the date... excepmting.....

NO -- you don't have to go to court.

Just see the back of the summons ... check the "not a citizen" box and mail it back with a copy of your passport bio page -- that's all.
If it would make you feel better, you can send it via some traceable means (like certified mail)

Peace_of_mind,

Many employer paid for it. Just go and learn how the laws works here.
They want to make you citizen ASAP.
;) ;)

Last time I dismissed the notice, I just followed the instruction on the form and called their number, answered a few questions using my touch tone phone, like NO to the citizen question, and that's it. I didn't even need to mail back the form.

But this is the LA county procedure though. Not sure if OC would do the same.

Thanks guys,
I could contact the jury commissioners office. I am glad that I need not send proof that I am not a citizen of US...., I hate to make copies of my passport....

Ubhavsar, What happened to your spouses case, did you reply for the RFE on her BC??

You ARE required to send copies of your passport or green card as proof. I just replied to summons for my wife for jury duty and what we did was ticked the requisite box, mention the country we were citizens off and mailed it in with a copy of her GC. After sending the requisite information they mail you a letter of confirmation that you don't need to attend.

And you should keep copies of passport, just in case it is lost due to fire or theft it is good to have a spare copy. It will help get your new passport faster.

IT's all county by county rules. OC doesnot require you to mail the copy of passport you have to fill up the back of form and return. I live in OC and i received the same couple of yrs back and i did the return it . One thing u have to make sure is u do return it with the back filled. County checks up ppl fileing state taxes and does the random selection for ppl who can come for jury.
