How do you know you are stuck in IBIS not FBI name check? Do you know since when you have been stuck?

RFE: AUG'2006(Employment details & Geographical details)
RFE RECEIVED & ACCEPTED AND CASE REOPENED sept'2006.
Had 2 FP's only till now.
5th EAD RIGHTNOW

I did NOT RECEIVE ANY NEW FP notice for last 2 years.my spouse(dependent) received 1 fp in 2006.
Took Info pass appointment for tommorow.Hope to get some answers.
My namecheck cleared in 2005.

Mine is Nov 2001 --EB3 India. Previous email conversation with CSC is my case is in Namecheck. Got Fingerprints on Feb 2007.Lets wait and see.

Hello nc3years

My namecheck is stuck from 3/4/2005 , I took info pass appt. and they told me that my application is stuck in NC.
I had made alll attempts to do follow ups regarding my namecheck but no luck still its pending.

I see the following change in online case system today on my case:

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: We mailed you a notice requesting additional evidence.

On May 16, 2007, we mailed a notice requesting additional evidence and/or information in this case. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the evidence and/or information requested. This case will be held in suspense until we either receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once you submit the information and/or evidence requested, you will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something further from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service.

1. Why they say the case will be held in suspense until they receive the evidence? - Is this common message they use for RFE?

2. Last August they told me that my case was in name check? does this RFE means Namecheck got cleared?

3. How do we respond to RFE? Through our lawyer or we can respond ourselves? This is the first time I am getting RFE on my I-485.

Please share your experience and knowledge on this.
