As regards the time taken for approval, I think that depends. As far as I can understand, here is how it works - once your response is received, it is sent directly to the officer who requested it provided the case is still "assigned" to him/her. However the case may no longer be assigned - if the officer had finished all the other cases in his current batch, he will return any pending RFE cases back to the holding area. In this case, the response will be put into the file and queued for assignment back to the same officer. I think this is where many cases are getting delayed. Once the case is re-assigned, it may then take 1 week - 2 months depending on where it is in the officer's pile.
