John Kerry hasn't even listed Immigration reforms as an issue. We need to make sure we get heard, please go to www.johnkerry.com and send him a mail. We are sufferring at the hands of DHS and he should be aware of it. Here's what I wrote in my email.

Dear Mr. Kerry:

What's your policy to reduce the immigration backlog? I am one among thousand of Indian computer professionals who are suffering from delays at the hands of DHS. We are loyal, educated , legal workers making serious contribution to the American economy living thousands of miles away from our home trying to make a better life and make a difference to the American economy. But still the Permanent residency delays are killing us. I have filed my adjustment of status application two years back and I still see no signs of any progress, I had to wait 2 years for my labor certification prior to that. On top of that we have to renew our Employment authorizations (EAD) cards every year and we have to file 6 months in advance to get the cards in time so we can continue to work. Immigration reforms are a must and must be addressed in your speeches. Immigrants like me are making serious contribution to the American economy. We need your help in us be able to live the American dream!!

Thanks for lending your ear.

Regards,
abc

Kerry - Edwards - Stronger at Home, Respected in the World.

Dear Friend,

Thanks so much for your thoughts about immigration. John Kerry
supports
immigration and understands how essential immigrants have always been
to
American society. He also believes that support for immigration should
go
hand-in-hand with a policy that will control America's borders and
protect
the security of Americans against foreign terrorists who would take
advantage of our openness.

Immigration Reform

There is bill presented by Senator Clinton and Kennedy about immigration reforms. This bill makes you eligible to apply 485 if you have worked two years in USA (legal or illegal). This bill will get major boosting if Kery becomes president.

Let's see what happenes.

Link to this bill was on immigration.com. I could not find it.

Ohh, r u serious.
I do not know how far it will be implemented but happy to know that atleast some movement has initiated in this direction.

Bush vs Kerry

For full article check http://immigration.about.com/od/uscasestatusprocessing/i/BacklogIssues.htm

Personally, I think it is easy to make promises before being elected...

Where Bush Stands:

Bush says he is committed to reducing backlog and improving all USCIS functions. In 2000, he pledged $500 million in new spending to help meet this goal. ’’We will bring to the INS a new standard of service and a culture of respect,’’ Bush said. Bush also changed the INS to the USCIS, under a plan to separate immigration services from enforcement services. And he proposed allowing relatives of permanent residents to visit the U.S. while their own immigration papers are being processed.

Where Kerry Stands:

Kerry says that "Today, despite all the promises, our immigration system is broken." He promised that, if elected, he would eliminate backlog within his first 100 days in office.
