Hi guys/JoeF

Me and my wife reside in NJ, USA.My wife lost her wallet and she had her green card along with her soc sec,drivers license everything got lost. I called my lawyer right away he told me to file I-90 online for her. I did file it. My question is how long will it take for her to get the replacement card, is it done through vermont proc center or through local NJ office. If she wants to leave the country in between what she should do. Kindly help guys. This is my Info

E-filing date 12/4/06.
Got the receipt right away. USCIS took the money from my debit card account yesterday. Waiting for the reply letter.

Here is what I can suggest.... You mentioned that your wife lost GC, license & SSN. You didn't mention about passport so it is a good news.

Go to SSN Office with the passport and ask them to send the SSN card to your address. They WILL do it at no cost.

Take the SSN card and the passport to DL office and ask them to get her a duplicate license. They may charge you some money depending on the State you live in.

You said you already applied for I90 so don't panic. Wait for few months (I would say give about 3 months) to get the card from USCIS.

In the mean time if she has to travel, then take the I90 notice and the passport & go to your nearest USCIS Office (get Infopass before you go)
and tell them that you need a temporary I551 stamp on the passport. They will do it. I have read in the forum that some people have gotten stamp valid
for few months.

I551 stamp is valid for one year and is as good for travel as plastic GC.

Other suggestion: put an alert on her credit file with all three major credit bureaus to prevent or thwart identity theft.

I 've been thru the same situation. Losing GC is no big deal unless you have to re-enter the country (leaving the country, apparently, is not a problem).

You mentioned that you are from NJ. This means that your USCIS office is probably Newark. If you must go there to get a temporary stamping in your passport, you need to show them proof of emergency travel like death or illness. And, Newark only issues stamps valid for 30 days. So if you are travelling for more than 30 days, re-entry will be a problem. Your travel plans should be for less than 30 days :-( Also, the stamping validity begins immediately, not from the time you leave the country. I hope that you do not have any emergency travel plans soon.

Your bigger concern should be the loss of the SSN card. Keep an eye on your bank balances and credit reports. The FACT act provides for one free credit report every year from each of the three reporting agencies. Get one from Experian now, one from TransUnion four months from now and one more from Equifax 8 months from now. Repeat every year. This way you can check your credit report every four months.
