Hi,

My current job title is programmer. I got offer whose job title is software engineer. I will also get more pay. Dose it matter the job title is changed?

Thanks
vivian

vivian_gc,

That's the way zapaddam is. Please ignore him. He feels compelled to say something negative or tangential when he sees a post by either waytoolong or myself.

As waytoolong said, as long as your new job description isn't radically different from that of the old one, you should be fine. Increase (to an extent) in salary is not a negative thing either.

Vivian_GC: BCIS uses the O*NET database to map your job description and title to a standard classification.

Also to qualify for AC21 portability you should be able to prove that the job description in the LC is similar to the new job description. You can check the LC job description and make sure that the new employer can provide a employment letter with similar job description.

You may also want to check the O*NET database (look under AC21 stuff under http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?threadid=93273) to be comfortable with what the differences between the two job titles are.

I don't think BCIS is going to accept a transition from Pizza delivery boy --> Software Engineer, but a transition from Software Programmer --> Software Engineer can definitely be argued as being within "same or similar" job descriptions.

waytoolong,

My job duties is very similar except job title. Your link is very helpful to make this clear.

Thanks again and wish you get gc soon.
