Hello guys...

Ay Neshawn... Any advise? Thanks in advance each and everyone of you! :D

depends on the typ eof Job for exampl ein my career Physio therapy Exp and liscense is a must, but other job markets will train new hires, such as police, airports Hospitality industry, entry level sales, retail.

I suggest first set a goal on what you would like to be doing, thne set your sights in that direction, possibly getting a job that is a stepping stone to what you hope to achieve.

If you haven;t finished your academic goals look in that direction and look for jobs that may help you achieve that.

Set goal
identify potential jobs/ employers
research position in company you apply for
write down ALL your past expereinces and compile them into a resume highlighting your strengths

Market your self,
You may think you odnt have experience but once you sit down and write down al;l your strengths and past skills, you will be surprised how much experience you can market.

Most importanly have confidence in your own abilities.

Good Luck!

Read the book called What Color is Your Parachute by Richard Bolles, really good career guide.

Hello there! So u got your SS# :o I am still waiting. My advice is this:

If you could deal with this immigration issue, you can deal with anything.

There are organizations within every community that you can go to get basic employment skill and resume writing assistance. Take advantage of them.

Go to your nearest Employment Commission and register. They will help you select jobs according to your skill level.

Also, I know most of us in this situation need a job asap, but take the time to expand yourself. What have you always wanted to do but lack the opportunity? It appears that you have good people skills. look for a job that involves customer service.

Last but not least, LET NOTHING GET YOU DOWN. NO MATTER WHAT!

Best Wishes

First of all, thanks Neshawn, Addie, and glorya...

Second, no... I still have not gotten my social security (i applied for it just yesterday), but it did say on the reciept to wait 2 weeks and that I should be getting it within it.

I actually want to apply at a cell place or at a hospital but my question here is, what do I put under experience?

I am not gonna lie i have done some under the table jobs (i was a busboy/waiter at a restaurant, a pharmacy tech, worked at a laundrymat front desk) in the past but would this be a problem at all regarding my applications? My lawyer's secretary said it would not be a problem with the immigration but how about the employers?

Hey Neshawn... When did you apply for your SS# and what did it say on the reciept? I say not to worry at all bro... It will come and when we start workin, we will be rich :D

Iapplied on the 25th; however, my records were in the system but my name was mispelled (I-485). Immigration finally sent me a notice verify the correction. I called Social Security AGAIN and they said they hadn't received any thing from Immigration. My question was if i received the name correction by mail, shouldn't they had received correction also since it is done electronically. So I called both the Immigration and the Social Security I-800 numbers trying to press the issue and Social Security told me they was working on it as of today :o , so I don't know when to expect my Social Security Card.

Marl, when you prepare a resume, use your work experience. It will help. Be discreet about informing about certain things though. Only tell what you are asked. I think you would benefit by going to the Employment Commission. Most people call it the "Unemployment Office" ha ha. . They will match you up. Let me know when you get that card, although I thought you would be given the "assigned SS# even though you had to wait for actual card??? My letter just stated that I had applied and that they couldn't give me a number at this time due to the verification of Immigration info.. It has a reference number.

Sorry to hear about the long delay with your application for SS#... Atleast now you know that they started working on it since the 25th. Give it about a week and a half more and let me know what happens. I would suggest if your are really getting impatient is to go to the SS office and bring that mail you got from the immigration about your name correction. Then again, I'm not really that experienced about all of this.

About the temporary number, alot of people did say you can get a temporary number, but then again i think that all depends on the type of documentation you have. I will let you know as soon as i get the card...

About the job search, I will try to go to the Employment Commision... Thanks for the replies...

Don't worry Neshawn... Your card will arrive... It just really sucks to have to wait...
