Job Related GC and N-400

Hi,

My wife got a Employment Based Green card. However, she only worked for 3-4 months after that and was laid off. Then she had a child and was at home for 1.5 years. After that she changed her line and does not work in IT anymore.

My questions:
1. Will there be any problems when she applies for her citizenship. She does not have any documentation about her lay off. The company let her go and eventually went out of business.
2. Will there any problems since she changed her field.
3. Do I need to consult a lawyer before applying for her N-400.

1. This should not be a problem, try to find some documentation that shows that the company went out of business.

She should be fine unless the IO is a real pita. Periods of unemployment and/or changing job field (post GC) are unrelated to N-400 applications and have no impact on case outcome.

N-400 employment history is used by USCIS for several reasons:
- may help support employment based GC validity or otherwise
- helps back up residency claims
- could be used in conjunction with tax returns to show you paid all taxes owed.
- etc, etc.
