Job Offer Question

Hi all - I am wondering about supplying a job offer letter to show I will not be a public charge. Is it ok to use an offer letter for a job I don't plan on accepting, and will decline before my interview? So, if I use it, will they call the employer to see if I am coming?

Thanks!

It could be seen as fraud. They absolutely will not call the employer.
I think you should be just fine but hey, make sure you don't say anything about not accepting the job when u get to the states to the consular. that will mess up ur credibility.

DO NOT LIE TO THEM. Accept the job... work until after your interview, then quit. LOL - actually DO NOT TAKE THAT ADVICE either.... that was a joke.

I guess the point is - don't lie. You will be really, really sorry if you are caught. Also, lying to an officer is a CRIME and is not a light one. The thing you should do is GET a job that you like and want BEFORE your interview and you won't be in this situation. Or - GEt a job you dont like and stick it out so that you WONT be a public nuissance. But, don't drop an offer letter to them when you haven't accepted.... tisk, tisk...

They may even ask for a recent pay stub, then you'd be F****d

I'm not sure I follow the panic that the earlier replies showed. Can you delay rejecting the offer? You can say (if asked) that you have this offer but you are still negotiating compensation and/or looking at other opportunities.

You have to show that you will not become a public charge. You are not applying for H-1B... you do not have to go to a specific employer.

Not sure why you would turn down one offer before getting another offer unless there is a deadline.

Thanks for the answers, I should clarify - the offer is for a summer position for when I finish studying next July, and then a permanent position following a one year position I have already accepted (which I have a letter for). The reason I was going to use this letter was to evidence that I will not become a public charge because I can gain employment at X level on $X (the salary is stated in the letter) in the long term. So I wasn't going to lie about taking the job, just use it as evidence that I am employable. My concern was that they would call the employer and I would look bad or something. I can't hold off until the interview unfortunately.

U pretty much will have to be in the states to get a job offer. its not like a Tech job where the interviews are conducted in India/Japan for the American companies and besides, your employer will want to know your qualifications and stuff like that. U know what i mean

haha. yeah its a job offer but the consular isn't gonna get excited about it. its like saying"HEY, I JUST GOT A JOB OFFER FROM MCDONALDS"

Try and find a sponsor so u don't have to deal with the job offer mess but if you can't find anyone, i guess this is ur best bet.
