Hi,
I got my gc in june 2001. I am currently out of a job and have applied for unemployment insurance (have not received anything though) since last 2 weeks.
In these tough times, I have received a job offer from a company based in London, UK. If I plan to stay out of the country on a (UK business visa and later a UK work visa)for 4-5 months, will that cause problems to my green card in the US? I am married and have a son. I plan to call my family later when I settle down in London.

Can you suggest all the alternatives that I may have? I will consult an immigration attorney. But, before that, I wanted to have a feel from friends who have done similar things or know somebody who does?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Plan accordingly

You can put an application for extended stay (upto a max. of 2 years) outside the US (i.e. an application for return into the US as a PR after a stay of > 1yr and

thanks for your responses.

I got the following information from an attorney that the company offering me a job consulted:
- Keep a primary residence in the US if possible
- Maintain property (car etc.)
- Keep your credit cards in the US(keep using them)
- Pay your taxes as a resident
- Make phone calls to the US (keep those records)
- Pay bills in the US, keep a record
- Maintain your main saving account in the US
- Visit US once in 4-5 months for maximum safety.

These are some of the things that need to be taken care of

Good luck.

If you cannot maintain a primary residence ??

Thnks for the input,
I understand that every case is different !
In my case, If I take a job outside US, I have nobody to live at my apartment, so rest of the things mention by "hiten" are almost imposible.
Any ideas how does it work out for guys like me to work outside US, without having a primary residence in US.
IS the % of tax paid is similar to what you pay in US or less when you declare your income as "foreign".
Any advice; appreciate
thnaks

hi nnabi1,
the question is more of property in the US. So, if you have a car.. that should count as property too.
As for the world wide income.. do a search on google and you will get a number or links.. I am not sure but, I remember reading somewhere that a lot of it is exempt from tax and can be deducted.

Thanks,

Hiten !
I thought it is understood that if you don\'t have any family member or relative to live in US, then what the point of having a car. I mean who will drive it and where u will park it...
I will look on web for world wide income.
Thanks
