Job change

I have a green card since June 2007. I am still with my sponsoring employer. Right now, I want to start my own business that has nothing to do with my education or current job. Will this be a problem when I apply for citizenship in a couple of years?

Also, if I go back to my home country, what is the max time I can stay there without violating residency rules?

Thanks for your response.

Job change 3 years after GC is not a problem.

Residency rules are complex. The simplest are
A) Physical Presence - Stay in US for half the time of the 5 years before you apply for USC.
B) Continuous Residence - Never go out for longer than 6 months in one trip, unless you can prove residential ties to US, or never go out longer than 1 year without an approval

However, complexities arise when people go out of US for multiple back to back 5-6 months trips. They are basically living abroad and visiting US just to meet the statutory requirements. Some IOs do not like that.

If you are likely to be close to meeting or breaking these rules, you can elaborate. Otherwise, have fun ... a few small trips never hurt anyone.

can they still ask why I left sponsoring employer during N400? i am burned out at my job and want something different. thanks so much for your response!

After working for the employer for 3 years post-GC approval, the interviewer definitely won't ask why you left.

Please can anybody advise me what to do... I applied I-131 application for RTD on June 14th 2010 and I received a biometrics appointment (I-797 notice of action) suppose to be done on November, 16th...I did my biometrics on the date and one month and a half i have received another I-797C notice of action with new biometrics appointment to be done on Jan, 19-2011....I called USCIS and they told me that they received my biometrics on Nov.17th-2011 but didn't mention anything about the second notice...Anybody have any idea why they sent me the second appointment???? And what to do??? Do I need to go to the other appointment???

That has nothing to do with job changes. Please start a separate thread for your RTD/I-131 questions.
