job change after GC approval

I don't understand. srohit post /link above says that BCIS needs to be notified so they can verify when filed for citizenship, SM says that you don't have to notify.

Meaning, you don't have to notify unless you plan to apply for citizenship??

Citizenship criteria depends more on how long you've had GC, and there are multiple ways to find that out .. your A# is enough as a matter of fact.

And I read that statement, citizenship has no written requirement mentioning anything about your employment history. The requirements are more on the lines of how long you've had your GC, what has been your stay pattern in USA, and that makes you eligible to apply for c'ship. But, then they could always deny it .. well ... hardly anyone gets turned down as of today. But yea if you are a serial rapist or a chainsaw murderer .. they might .. not if you changed employers.

While it is true that there is no need to notify INS of a job change after getting a Green Card, filing for Citizenship down the line may require some employment history to be revealed.

INS can and most likely will verify whether the Green Card was obtained through legal means. And this translates into that they verify for how long you have been employed with the sponsoring employer after getting your Green Card. At that point, they can deny Citizenship and revoke the Green Card, if they find a misrepresentation of facts or fraud.

That is why it is recommended to stay with the sponsoring employer as long as possible, 6 moths at minimum. Remember that Citizenship is a closest target when the legitimacy of your Green Card can be questioned. Another, although somewhat distant, target is the Green Card renewal, which happens every 10 years nowadays.

And, of course, if you have any applications pending with INS at the time (such as dependent I-485), it is better to refrain from any job changes for the time being.
