I visited India in May and traveled on AP since I cud not get H1 visa stamp.Now I have my H1 ext approval notice and want to send my wife to either Channi or Mumbai consulate in India.

First of all pls advice as to whether she can go to Mumbai consulate even though her residece is in south India which comes under Chennai.She has relatives in Mumbai and she can use that address.I am of the opinion that chennai consualte is the most troublesome among all.

Does mumbai also allow drop box as chennai for first time H4 ?

Secondly I am planing to write a letter accompanying application for Visa.Do u think I shud also state that I traveled on AP and I dont have H1 Visa in my PP or just dont have to mention that at all.

Thirdly do u think I shud give copies of my pp which has AP stamp in it or shud I give copies which were taken before AP stamp was on it.

The address on her passport determines where she can go for stamping. The address on your passport can also be used to change the consulate.
Mumbai also has a drop box.
I dunno about what DOS has opinions about AP and H visas. I suggest U consult the lawyer (U know who) who advocated Ap does not cancel H1.
Yr wife has to get H4, which means that U have to present H1.
howabout getting a revaidation from St.Louis using the H1 extension as suggested (successful too) by another forum user (Mustaffa?)...
Sorry, As I keep repeating here, these are all arm chair opinions...

Jaxen I am planing to give it a try.I am thinking of writing a letter addressing Chennai consulate as follows

"Please note that I do not have a current H1 Visa in my passort.I traveled to US on June 10th 2002 using Advance Parole Since I am in Adjustment of Status.According to May 2000 memo from INS a person is allowed to travel using Advance Parole without having any effect on the underlining H1.So even though I traveled using Advance Parole I am stilll maintaining H1 status.Now I have the H1 extension approved from INS ,copy of which is attached along with the rest of the papers."

Do u think this will help ? or will it screw up ?

I am assuimg that if my wife's H4 is rejected I can always go to India immediately and get H1 and H4 together .Do u think it is possible.

I think the letter should work. Give more info on the reference to the memo.
