I called the 1-800 number today. The IIO said she\'s unable to check the status of my case but she will send out an electronic case status inquiry to my local office.

Jack

You should also call NSC, talk to a IIO and inquiry for the status of your case. Because you don\'t have NSC receipt number, they can check the status with your alien number. It takes up to two hours to finally talk to somebody, and you will find the line busy, but just keep re-dialing until your call goes trough.
As per INS notices, at this time your local office must have asked NSC the authorization to complete processing of your application. Regards

I called this number today

My receipt marked August 31, 1998 and they said that current waiting time for this period is 45 months, call us back after July 31, we will send request to your local office. I don\'t know if this request will do any good. what worries me most, is that INS never contacted me, not for fingerprints, not for interview, nothing, nada....

Annv,

It\'s normal not to be contacted by the INS before the 45months processing time. And only 2% of the asylee applicants get called for the interview. You should get a finger print notice after 45months though.
I think the current priority date is January 1998.

I think there is nothing to worry about. I believe you are getting closer, and will receive news before the end of FY 2002 or by the beginning of FY 2003, if President Bush approves the Presidential Determination for FY 2003, timely.
INS has reported to be processing applications filed before June 9, 1998 and is making efforts to contact people that filed before that date and haven\'t received any new yet. So, applications filed after June 9, 1998 (like yours) are not being processed yet. Those applicants shouldn\'t have received any notice yet.
My filing date is also close to yours and I am also hoping to receive some news before the end of this year.
The fact that they told you to call after July 31, makes me think that maybe, you get a chance to have your application processed by the end of this FY.
What doesn\'t make sense for me is why they are going to send a request to local office, when you filed at NSC.
No worries, just be patient and stay alert. Please let us know if you receive any new. Regards

I think that by local office they meant Nebrasca Service Center. BTW, lady, who took my call was very nice and tried her best to be helpful...
